Will start high school this fall

Matt started weekend mountain bike rides with his dad and brother when he was 5 years old. From the beginning, Matt showed incredible handling skills and endurance. It didn't take long for Matt to ride the most challenging terrain and outride kids 4 to 5 years older. When he was 12, he was given an old Cannondale 3.0 with Dura Ace 8 speed. In his first ever road ride, he rode 25 miles with the "old guys". Within a few months he was riding 100 mile weeks. That summer (2006) Matt started racing, finishing 2nd in the State Junior Time Trial and Road Race. Last summer, Matt won the 13 - 14 year old State Criterium and Road Race Championships and was 7th and the National Cycling Festival Junior Time Trial Championships in Summerset Pennsylvania.

In 2008 Matt was upgraded to a category 3 road cyclist and recently defended his State Criterium and Road Race Championships in the 15 - 16 age. This summer, Matt will participate with 5 of his teammates and 25 other junior cyclists in the USA Cycling Mid-South Junior Development Camp in Sewanee Tennessee. The camp is made up of promising junior riders from around the country as selected by USA Cycling. Matt's main goal this year is to finish in the top 10 at USA Cycling's Junior National Championships in Los Angeles, California. Look for him to FLY on his new Palmeri TT bike!

Matt ended up 9th overall. 87 kids started and he was 9th. He met his goal of top ten.

Later this year Matt plans on racing cycle cross, training on the velodrome and dropping the "old guys" on his single speed mountain bike.
